As one of Asia’s mostly traveled and best valued destinations, Bangkok offers a plethora of experiences. Truly, this city is one of the busiest cities I’ve been. The traffic buzzes everywhere, city streets are always teeming with life and vendors are scattered all over the place.
This country was our last stop for our Indochina trip starting off from Cambodia-Vietnam-Thailand-Laos-Thailand-Manila. During our visit, the country is still mourning for the death of their King Bhumibol Adulyadej. At the airport, the staff were giving out black tribute ribbons to be worn as a sign of respect. Thais have been wearing dark colours, and travelers were asked not to wear flamboyant colors when in public places.
Most of the tourist spots were closed especially the Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace, as they were the venue of the royal funeral rites. Roads were blocked, route guides were posted everywhere and people were asked to walk to be able to reach the main entrance of these temples.

As part of our itinerary, we headed directly to The Grand Palace which was jam-packed with people coming from different parts of the world. All were paying respect in their simple ways to the late King. The palace were open to all and no fees were collected upon entry.
I cannot help but feel amazed by how the Thais showed their love and respect to the King. They were all lined up to be able to see him and most of them were crying.

Being able to witness a one of a kind history is truly an honor. It’s one of the highlights of this trip and I can say that this country is amazing not only because of it’s beautiful spots but also of it’s nice people.

Aside from witnessing this event, we also visited some of the most amazing structures inside and outside the Palace. All were perfectly created and will never fail to make you feel wow!

After the temple and King’s visit, we went to MBK Mall to buy some souvenirs and eat dinner. We just had a one day trip in Bangkok since we do not have so much time and we had to compress our 6-day Indochina trip to 4 countries. But still, the experience is unforgettable! We will surely plan out for a solo Thailand trip to explore the other provinces soon.
